Updates from Shepherd's
Centre Foundation
1. Total Children 105 (84 Males / 21 Females)
At present, there are two tuition teachers conducting classes for
school-going and non-schooling children. The non-schooling children
are given home science classes and skill studies. A group of volunteers
(students) from University of Nottingham, Semenyih, are conducting
language classes i.e. Tamil and Chinese every Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Presently, we have 4 students from Canada on exchange programmes
from the universities coaching our boys.
2. Counselling Centre
The on-site Counselling Centre is a place where the children undergo
healing process. Individual child and group therapy is provided
to help children change negative behaviour, destructive thought
patterns and work towards restoring their emotions with the help
of the trained counselors.
3. 2005 Government School Examinations
One of our boys scored 7As in his PMR Examination and is currently
in Form 4 Science. Two girls scored 3A's - 4B's and 1A - 3B's respectively
for their SPM results. They are now awaiting entry into Maktab Perguruan/College.
One of our boys has been selected for the National Service. Four
boys just graduated from Montfort Boys' Town and they received 7
awards for excellence in conduct, academy and for other skills.
4. Total Old Folks 14 (8 Males / 6 Females)
At the moment they are given medical and personal attention to improve
their well-being. Two doctors have volunteered to give medical care
from time to time. Special programmes such as physical exercise
and English classes are also being conducted. One of our elderly
uncle from our home past away peacefully.
5. Home for the delinquent (problematic) boys
A home has been set up to cater for boys with difficult behavioural
pattern. It is a new project undertaken by the Foundation. This
home can house about 15-20 boys. We have a number of boys who are
ready to get in but due to lack of expertise we are holding on this
project.
